

Charles Thomas Holmes, 89, 2nd generation native Houstonian, devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather was born on September 3, 1922 to Herbert and Priscilla Greeley Holmes, passed away on July 24, 2012.
Charlie was a graduate of Jefferson Davis High School, Class of 1939 and attended Texas A&M University, College Station.
He was extremely proud of his country and enjoyed patriotic music, having served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp, First Lieutenant, WWII. As both a navigator and bombardier he flew 35 combat missions in B29's over Japan, the South Pacific War Theater.
Charlie enjoyed serving in his community as Cub Scout Leader, Little League Baseball Coach and in his retirement Habitat for Humanity. He was a longtime member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and the Wedding Band Sunday School Class. He and Donna traveled extensively in their retirement years.
Owner and President of International Sheet Metal, Inc. Charlie will be remembered for his great productivity, subcontracting for projects that included the Astrodome, NASA and M.D. Anderson. He held many leadership positions both locally and nationally and was very active with the Sheet Metal Contractors Assoc.
Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, William Greeley Holmes. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna Leigh Shields Holmes; sister, Dorothy Winslett; sons, Thomas W. Holmes and wife, Diana; James M. Holmes and wife, Judy; daughter, Diane Holmes Bean and husband, George. Also surviving are Charlie's grandchildren of whom he was so proud, most especially their college achievements, Crystal and Ashley Holmes, Michael Ward and wife, Alicia, Dr. James Holmes, Jr, Summer Warner and husband, Andy, Joshua and Jared Holmes.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay.
Private graveside services will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Ward, Andy Warner, Dr. James Holmes, Jr. Andy Pape, Joshua Holmes and Jared Holmes.
