A lifelong resident of Houston, and later Cypress, Texas, he graduated from high school in 1965 and married his childhood friend, Diane Johns; they shared over fifty years together. Following the birth of his daughter, he joined the Houston Fire Department and served the citizens of the City of Houston for almost forty years. After his retirement, he worked alongside his wife with the Do the Write Thing program, which seeks to promote anti-violence and positively impact youth in their schools, homes and communities. Charles is survived by his wife Diane, his daughter Dena Kelly and her husband Jim, and his son Jeff Jacobs and his wife Cathy. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacob, Joshua, Elizabeth, Emily, and Charlie.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the following special physicians: Dr. Leo Simpson, Dr. Sarah Shearer and Dr. Whitson Etheridge, who, guided by God’s hand, worked so diligently to give us 5½ “extra” years to love and laugh with “Grandpa Charles”.
A memorial service to honor him will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 10 AM at Second Baptist Church – Cypress Campus, 29900 Highway 290, Cypress, Texas. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
