

Charyle Ruth accepted Christ at an early age, where she was a member at St. Martinville Baptist Church. Her love for Christ followed her throughout her adult years. She served as head deaconess at Community of Faith in Houston, for many years. At the time of her homegoing, Charlye Ruth was Mother of the Church at Harmony Church in Houston, Tx under the leadership of her son, Kelvin.
She attended her early education within the public schools of Navasota, and graduated from Carver High School in 1954. Furthering her education, she attended Prairie View A&M University. Here, she obtained a nursing degree (1957) and was a member of the CHI ETA PHI sorority.
Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Earnest “E.W.” Cotton. The two were married January 28, 1958, and from this union produced two sons, Kenneth and Kelvin. They were married 45 years before his passing in 2003.
Charlye Ruth resume’ was just as impressive as she was. After college, she held a position of Head Nurse at Jefferson Davis Hospital and Director of Nursing at Lyndon B Johnson Hospital in 1992, She retired after 35 years of Nursing.
Mom, Nana, Aunt Ruth, Aunty, and Mother Cotton as she was affectionately called by those who loved her, has received her call home. On Monday, January 10, 2022, the Lord was looking over his flower bed of souls. As he looked, he saw a bright and gleaming rose. The Lord decided to take the rose for his heavenly vase. Charlye Ruth’s soul is free from the world and is in a place of joy, peace, and eternal rest.
The precious memories of Charlye Ruth Cotton will forever be remembered in the hearts and minds of all who knew her. These memories will be cherished by her sons Kenneth Cotton (June) and Pastor Kelvin Cotton (Sabrina), grandson Joshua Cotton and great granddaughter Ka’Lani Giles, best friends Johnnie Jones and Martha Stancil, her care “companions” Joyce Judge, Cynthia Prater, Ja’Moca Crowden, and Stephen Preston, Goddaughter Chryshae Johnson, Godson Trey Swayzer and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, adopted brother Donald Sally her husband and parents.
