

Urban Clyde Marquis was born on September 9, 1925 in Houston, Texas to Lucius Henry and Sally J. Spence. He passed away Wednesday morning, February 16th, 2022, at Parkway Place in Houston, Texas at the age of 96 years.
Clyde was a graduate of Cuero High School in 1942 and then joined the U.S. Navy soon after. His naval service gave him the opportunity to attend university and he graduated in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in Geology from Emory University and in 1958 he also completed a graduate degree from Emory University in Georgia.
Clyde worked as a geologist for Humble/Enco/Exxon Oil, then as an independent geologist, and then Hunt Oil in Houston and Dallas until he retired. He was an oilman and rancher, and his special interest and love was spending time at his ranch in Giddings, Texas. He was especially proud that all his cows were born on his ranch. He enjoyed the outdoors, family get-togethers, and traveling. He was a loving and generous man who prioritized family by hosting events during the holidays to bring his extended family together. He was a beloved brother and uncle, and a cherished family member who will be remembered for all he shared with others. He moved to Houston in June 2017 to be closer to family where he lived at Parkway Place retirement home.
Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ann Taylor; his brothers, Kenneth Marquis, Jerry Marquis and Henry Marquis.
Clyde leaves to cherish his memory, his sister-in-law Saundra Marquis; 13 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Funeral Services for Clyde Marquis will be March 12th at 2pm at Forest Grove Cemetery near Rockdale with Pastor Lance Welch officiating.
