Coleman Lawrence Sellers, Sr. (93) went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Coleman was born March 11, 1933 in Galveston, Texas. He was the Great Grandson of famed American businessman and industrial inventor George Escol Sellers, whose works are in the Smithsonian. Ever the adventurer, at 16, he joined the National Guard, making it all the way to Master Sargent of Company D, the 57th Tank Battalion, 49th Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas, for the next 10 years. While being in the National Guard, given his entrepreneurial lineage, he knew he wanted a hands on career path. He joined the Local 68 Plumbers Union at 19 becoming a master plumber and pipefitter, and was a member of the union for the next 30 years. Although retired from the union, he continued his craft as a pipefitter in the oil refineries, working up into his early 70’s, for a total of 56 years. Over those years, Coleman not only faithfully served his country, but also his family. He, along with Gayle, raised five children and were further blessed when the grand and great grandchildren came along. To the grands and great-grands Coleman was affectionately known as Grampee, Gramps, and/or Pops.
After retiring, Coleman enjoyed many activities and hobbies including his daily swim, fishing, hunting, taking care of the neighborhood strays, listening to the blues or Merle Haggard, watching westerns, and his favorite, family gatherings.
Coleman was preceded in death by his former wife, Gayle Gordan Sellers; parents, Ruth Mae Lawrence-Sellers and George Escol Sellers Sr.; and brother, George Escol Sellers Jr.
