Corita Taylor was born March 29, 1927 in Arnaudville, Louisiana to Rosenberg and Angelina Powell, the fourth of ten children. She later met and married the Love of her life, Steven Timothy Taylor Sr., on June 5, 1948. They moved to Houston, Texas to begin their new lives together. From this union, they had three children, Carolyn, Steven Jr., and Angelina. Her greatest joy was her family; cooking meals for them brought her so much pleasure. There was always a place at her table for family, friends and neighbors as she fed them all. When not preparing a meal, one would often find her visiting with neighbors talking about the good olé days. Corita never met a stranger; everyone was a future friend. She joins the Ladies of Auxiliary Court 101, where she was a member for over sixty years. She and her husband moved to the Blue Ridge area in 1954. There they became faithful members of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church family. From humble beginnings, she remained modest while raising three children in addition to taking in Monica as her very own for the foremost fundamental years of her life. She was there for anyone who needed a place to sleep or a meal to eat. She adored the company of all. Corita Taylor passed away on September 13, 2014 to join her husband, Steven Taylor, Sr. She is proceeded by her parents Rosenberg & Angelina Powell, sisters Leona, Elsie, Lorena, Alice and brothers Paul, Regis, and Joseph. She leaves - to mourn - her children Carolyn Taylor, Steven Taylor, Jr. and Angelina White. Her sisters Victoria Powell and Marie Powell, grandchildren Tracie King, Corey Taylor, Brian Taylor, Lakeisha White, Danica White and great-grandchildren Blake, Corey Christiana, Amira, Tatyana, and Jayden, Godson Steven Stokenberry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
