

On January 24, 1928, Curtis Monroe, Sr. was born to Rugley Sr. and Willie Ada Monroe in Boiling, Texas. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized. He served as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. H.L. Price of the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, and also served as deacon under the leadership of Rev. Rugley Monroe, Sr. at the El Bethel Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Bus Driver. He took his church duties very seriously. His favorite scripture was Psalms 121. He was married to Addie Weathersby and from that union there were three children born Curtis, Jr., James Douglas and Angela Marie. He was later married to Maggie Stamps and from that union there were four children born Kimberly, Phillip, Gerald and Shannan. He also has another son Stevie. In the late 80's, while visiting California, due to illness it was decided that he would remain in California indefinitely. He served as deacon under the leadership of Rev. Curtis Monroe, Jr. at Greater Faith Baptist Church and Redeemer Baptist Church until he was no longer able to serve and became Deacon Emeritus. He was proceeded in death by his mother, father, 2 brothers ( James D, Marshall), 3 sisters (Gracie, Majorie, Nancy). Left to cherish his memory is his seven children, Rev. Curtis Monroe (Patricia), James Douglas (Earlicia), Angela Allen (James), Kimberly Monroe-Henderson, Phillip Monroe Sr.(Alanda), Gerald Monroe, Shannan Monroe-Flanagan(Donovan), Stevie Jones. Siblings, Robert Monroe (Ada), Rev. Rugley Monroe, Jr., Rev. Leroy Monroe ( Shirley), Clara Phillips (Rev. James Phillips) and Clarence Monroe (Delores). There are 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
