Darwin Allan Cude

He attended Sam Houston High School, graduating in 1969 at which point he joined the U.S. Army. Darwin served in Viet-Nam, in 1970, earning the Medal of Heroism. He was honorably discharged in 1971. In 1975 he joined the Army Reserves and was discharged in 1977, Darwin worked at the City of Houston until 1976. It was during that time that he met his wife of 51 years, Lila Marguerite Turner (Margie). He continued his career with Brown & Root until 1986. In 1986 he worked for Houston Industries until 2005 taking early retirement. He continued working as a contractor in the oil and gas field until his final retirement.

After retirement Darwin enjoyed woodworking, building swings and U.S. flags, for friends, family and charities. He loved driving trips traveling with Margie to see family and National Parks. He also enjoyed volunteering at Resurrection, being a member of the HOGS (Happy Old Geezer Society), and traveling to Guatemala on a Mobility Mission Trip distributing wheelchairs and mobility devices to the less fortunate.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Lila his sons Matthew Edward of Houston, TX. and Michael Allan of Louisville, KY., and his grandsons Zachary Michael Cude and Carter Matthew Cude. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Carol Santos, Brother-in-law, Michael Luycx and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Carolyn Cude, and sisters Shirley Ann Pettit and Susan Elane Luycx. Darwin’s greatest blessing was his family. He loved spending time with his sons and their families.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Houston Hospice and Darwin’s nurse, Chris. He always looked forward to her weekly visits, and the diligent, gentle and loving care she offered. She became a real friend to him.

Services for Darwin will be on February 1, 2024 at Resurrection Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m.
