

David Barrow Black went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. He was born in Houston, Texas on July 26, 1938 to Nellie Katherine Green and George Henry Black, who preceded him in death.
David attended St John’s School, The Kinkaid School, The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and graduated from The Browning School in New York City. He also attended the University of Houston, majoring in Business Administration and served as President of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
David served his country honorably in the US Army Reserves, and after completion of military service, he began working for his father at Black Brothers Furniture Store in Houston. He later joined his brother, George Black, at Black’s Carriage House-Ethan Allen, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and later became Vice-President and finally President of their furniture stores.
David with his wife Joanie, were very active in the Harris County Republican Party and served in many different capacities including attending many State and District Republican Conventions, and served as Election Judge for their precinct.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church Houston where he served as a Deacon for many years and belonged to the Special Forces Bible study class; he also contributed to many ministries to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was also a member of Allegro.
David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan McConnell Black and his son, David Barrow Black, Jr. of Dallas; daughter, Mary Katherine Black Pattison and her husband, Patrick, and grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, Andrew Duke Pattison and Anne Campbell Pattison, all of Dallas, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also survived by his brother, George Henry Black, Sr. and his wife Carolyn of Comfort, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at Second Baptist Church on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Hankamer Chapel at 6400 Woodway, Houston Texas 77057. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Second Baptist Church - Missions, 6400 Woodway, Houston Texas 77057.
