

David was born on July 16, 1945, in Victoria, Texas of Nathaniel Harold Norris and Marcella Ann Hagel. He graduated from St. Pius High School in Houston, Texas in 1963. On October 29, 1965, he was inducted in the United States Army and conducted much of his service with the Eighth Army at Camp Carroll, Waegan, South Korea. David was honorably discharged as a Specialist E-5 on March 16, 1967. During his service he met his future wife, Kyong Cha Yu, who also served at Camp Carroll as a civilian employee. While in service, David’s request to marry Kyong Cha Yu was denied by his superior officers. Upon his discharge from the Army, he saved up enough money and made the necessary immigration arrangements to return to South Korea as a civilian to bring the love of his life back to the United States. David married Kyong Cha Yu on March 12, 1969, in Houston, Texas where they started their family. David worked at Reynold’s Metals for many years, and he was an entrepreneur who opened Norris Car Care on Market St., in Houston, Texas in 1982. After he sold his business, he continued his love of working on vehicles at different shops throughout Houston, Spring Branch and Katy. David also served on military bases in Kuwait and Iraq after the Second Iraq War in 2003-2010 working as a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor for KBR. David was an avid reader, and loved drag racing, classic cars, and military aircraft. He was an enthusiastic historian of military history. David is survived by his wife Kyong Cha Norris and his three children, Harold Thomas Norris and Veronica Garza of Houston, Monica Ann Gilliam and Sidney Gilliam of Austin, and Guy Aloyesious Norris of Hockley. Surviving grandchildren are Scout Mina Gilliam, Harold Nathan Norris and Jesus Martinez. Surviving sisters Debra and husband, Dennis Rowland of Austin, Phyllis Travis of Tomball, Roberta Burton of Trinity, Marcia and husband David Van Brunt of Fulshear, and Nancy Norris and husband Gorlyn Janzen of Austin. He is also survived by numerous other relatives. A visitation will be held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Resthaven Chapel on 13102 North Freeway (I45) in Houston, Texas 77060. Funeral services will be held the next day on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
