Mack was preceded in death by his first love and the mother of his children, Kay Reeder Warren. He is survived by his last love, Amy Giles Warren, to whom he proved that great love was not only a possibility, but it could happen twice in a lifetime. Mack is also survived by his beloved children: Brian & Rachel Warren, Kristi Warren, and Sara & Jeff Melton. His grandchildren, Drew Warren, Caitlyn Warren and Ainsley Melton will sorely miss their adored PaPa as will extended family, life-long friends and cherished church family whose children also called him PaPa.
Born June 9, 1947 to the late O.B. and Maudie Warren, Mack lived most of his life in Baytown, Texas. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965, served his country in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Alamo from 1969 to 1971, and then graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1973.
Mack was a loyal Exxon employee for 21 years at the Baytown Chemicals Plant. He retired in 2006 to focus on being a PaPa and spent many hours chauffeuring Drew and Caitlyn, assisting with livestock projects, working with the Baytown Youth Fair, and cheering at athletic events. Later he was a member of “Dad’s Watch” at Ainsley’s elementary school, helping the teachers, greeting kids in car line and tying countless shoelaces during recess. If you asked him what kept him busy in retirement, he would say “catering to the women in his life.” He spoiled all of us.
Volunteering his time for children made him happy. Mack was a Life Member and Lifetime Committeeman at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. His favorite work was with the Special Attractions Committee at “Fun on the Farm” where for many years he helped hundreds of thousands of children learn about agriculture. Mack was also a valued volunteer in the Children’s Ministry at Wildwood United Methodist Church where every year he played a part in Vacation Bible School and pretty much any event involving the children.
Mack loved to dance and met Amy while enjoying this hobby. Together they traveled regularly by cruise ship with friends and family where there was always a dance floor, a buffet, and copious amounts of cookies. He was always happiest when there was a cruise on his calendar.
Mack loved in a big way and his love was reciprocated by many. His manner was gracious, honest, generous and accommodating. “Whatever suits you just tickles me to death” was often his answer to our questions. He will leave a big hole in the hearts of everyone whose lives he touched, especially those who called him “Sweet Man,” “Dad,” “PaPa,” “Mack-a-Million,” son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.
A celebration of Mack’s life will be held Saturday, January 9th, 2021 at 10am at Wildwood United Methodist Church in Magnolia. Services will be available via livestream on the church website www.wildwood-umc.org. Burial will follow at 2pm at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Baytown, Texas.
