

Donald C. Froehlich, 85, born October 26, 1925 passed away March 29, 2011. A native Houstonian, Don graduated from Sam Houston High School, and served in WWII as a B-24 gunner in the Fifteenth Air Force stationed in Naples, Italy from 1943-1946. From 1956-1967, Don was co-owner of Froehlich and Hood Taxidermy located on Richmond Avenue in Houston, with childhood friend Carter Hood. He was a life-long member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Donald was pre-deceased by parents, Charlie and Rena Winkelmann Froehlich; wife, Johnnie Ruth Dotson Froehlich; son, Gordon Allen Froehlich; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence “Cootie” and Earline Froehlich, and by brother-in-law, Harvey Hood. He is survived by son, Don Alan Froehlich; sister, Mildred Hood; nieces, Sandra McFadyen and husband, David, Donna Lemons and husband, Rick, and Cindy Harrington and husband, Dr. Scott Harrington; 6 great-nieces; 2 great-great nieces; 2 great-great nephews, and other family and friends.
The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 816 Roy St., Houston, TX, with The Reverend Richard L. Schuller officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Houston, TX. Serving as pallbearers will be A. T. Froehlich, Gilbert Froehlich, Marion Stawnicz, Robert Stawnicz, Vernon Stawnicz, and Danny Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Gordon, Carter Hood, Mel Roberts, and Eddie Steinsiek.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Good Samaritan Lutheran Home, Donnie Steinsiek Fund, P.O. Box 729, Cypress, TX 77429, or to a charity of choice.
