Before her marriage, Doris was a flight attendant for American Airlines. She met her future husband, Gene, when he was a passenger on one of her flights. Doris was an avid golfer and bridge player at Lakeside Country Club in Houston. Doris and Gene made many great friends there and enjoyed playing golf with other couples. She loved spending time outdoors and was a gifted gardener. She relished hosting family and friends often at their home and decorating festively for every occasion. Doris loved preparing wonderful meals for family gatherings, holidays, and her gin rummy dinner club. She also took great pride in her children and grandchildren — as a talented seamstress, she dedicated many hours sewing special outfits for them.
Doris was predeceased by her parents; Hal and Jessie Stone, her brother Charles H. Stone, and her beloved husband Eugene F. Shiels. She is survived by her four children; Laura Frost and husband Don, Emily Leeson and husband John, Gene Shiels and wife Leah, Bob Shiels and wife Terese; five grandchildren; Shannon Trace and husband Derrick, Andrew Frost, Slayton Shiels and wife Julie, Catherine Haltom and husband Cameron, Amelia Shiels; two great grandchildren, Dallas Shiels and Ellie Trace.
A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Dr. Wick Stuckey.
