

Doug departed this life on Saturday, June 7, 2014, just shortly after celebrating his 60th birthday on May 28th at one of his favorite steakhouses. Born and raised in Houston, Doug attended Westbury High School, where he was in ROTC. Following high school and a short stint in college, Doug joined the Navy and was eventually honorably discharged. Anyone who knew Doug understood his love of trains, which emerged at a very young age. Doug was able to leverage this passion in his career path as he was a dedicated employee of Union Pacific Railroad for nearly 30 years, where he held positions in Houston, St. Louis and Omaha. In recent years, Doug had been a loyal and compassionate caregiver for his mother. Predeceased by his father, Verne L. Maness and mother Mary S. Maness, Doug is survived by his sister, Julie M. Lowery and brother-in-law, J. Casey Lowery, cousin Suzanne H. Fitch and her children, Michael and wife Lauren, Pamela and fiance’ Buddy, aunt Ann Maness Martin and her children Bruce and wife Cynthia, Carl and wife Betsy and Janet Maness Haskell. Doug attended West Houston Seventh Day Adventist Church where he enjoyed fellowship and worship each week.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10am in the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale with graveside burial immediately following. Memorials to honor Doug’s life may be directed to The American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
