

Edward A. Wilturner, affectionately known as “Baby,” was born on June 9, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to Mattie Ora Fisher Williams and Edward A. Wilturner Sr. Endearingly nicknamed “Baby” by his mother, Edward was also known throughout his life as Edward, Baby, Will, and Pawpaw. He was raised in Houston, where he attended local schools and graduated from Jack Yates High School.
While in high school, Edward joined the singing group The Enchanters, where his love for music began to flourish. After graduation, Edward enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving during the Vietnam War and earning the rank of SP4. He was honorably discharged, carrying with him values of duty, strength, and dedication that remained part of his character throughout his life.
In August of 1974, Edward met the love of his life, Willie Maree Walker, affectionately known as “Cooky.” Their love story spanned over 51 years, built on an unshakable bond of love, laughter, faith, and partnership. To Edward, there was no “him” without “her.” Cooky was his heart and his lifelong companion.
Thirty-five years ago, Edward rededicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard Jewel Rose. He served faithfully as a member of the church choir, where he shared his gift as a tenor, a smooth and powerful voice that brought joy to countless souls. Music was more than just a talent for Edward, it was therapy, a form of worship, and a connection to others.
As an adult, Edward continued to sing as a founding member of Secret Formula, one of Houston’s beloved local singing groups. Known for their harmonies and heartfelt performances, Secret Formula gave Edward a stage to shine and uplift through song.
Edward and Cooky were blessed with raising Monica as their own. With love and grace, Cooky embraced his children Tina, Curtis, Keith, and Kenneth as her own.

Professionally, Edward built a long and successful career at Southwest Airlines, where he worked from August 3, 1991, until his retirement on September 20, 2020. For over 29 years, he brought dedication, reliability, and joy to his work and his coworkers.
Edward came from a large, loving family. On his father’s side, he had three sisters and five brothers. On his mother’s side, he had three brothers and two sisters. His deep love for family was reflected in the way he stayed connected, supported others, and served as a source of strength.
On July 15, 2025, Edward transitioned peacefully from this life. He now rejoins his beloved children Tina and Curtis, who preceded him in death.
While his earthly voice may be quiet, his melody lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
To be surrounded by peace was all Edward ever wanted, and through his love, his music, and his presence, he gave that peace to everyone around him.
He lived his dreams, and he will forever be loved, remembered, and admired.
