

Edwin John Gallaher was born November 8, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois and died suddenly September 27, 2015 in Houston, Texas. Eddie was the son of Stella Gallaher and Charlie Gallaher and grew up in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Metro High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Houston. Eddie is survived by his mom and dad, his sister Charlene Gallaher Cally, his niece Brittany Cally, and by his very close friend and companion Liza Daily. Eddie worked for a number of years in the Creative Writing Program of the University of Houston and then for twenty years at Houston Community College in the English and Math Departments. Eddie was a help to all he encountered. His dedication to service was clear. A talented writer, he enjoyed helping all in improving their writing from the beginning writer to the most accomplished. His poems were published in the Paris Review and The Weight of Addition and are anthologized in Retellings: a Thematic Literature Anthology. He helped countless faculty and students with writing, advising, and life.
A visitation with family will be held 4-7pm, Thursday, October 1st at the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held 3:30-4:30pm, Friday, October 2nd at the Central Campus of Houston Community College, Learning Hub Science Building 100.
