

Carole was born in Oxford, Mississippi on May 5th, 1941, to Elsie Muriel Mosier Hill and Luther Hill Jr. She grew up in Ellisville, Mississippi and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. Following college, she lived and worked in New Orleans, Louisiana where she began her long and remarkable teaching career. In 1964 Carole married Edward Steven Fairfield beginning their life together in Newark, New Jersey. They found their home to raise their family in Old Metairie, Louisiana where they lived for nearly 40 years. Carole taught history and literature at Metairie Park Country Day School. It was here that she created the Shakespeare Players, introducing countless young students to the love of Shakespeare’s language. She taught at Country Day for more than 25 years. Upon her retirement, Carole and Steve moved to Houston to be near their family.
She began this new chapter of her life as an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where she volunteered for Vacation Bible School sharing her talents of storytelling and teaching. Carole embraced the Travis Elementary community with the creation of the Travis Shakespeare Players, an after school drama troupe for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
She influenced the lives of thousands of students in over 60 years in teaching. Carole cherished her time in Houston with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She loved being there for every aspect of their daily lives.
Carole is survived by her daughter Patricia Carole Fairfield Dupuy, her son-in-law John Dupuy, her granddaughter Ella Mosier Dupuy and her grandson Thomas Steven Dupuy. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Hill Myrick, her niece Jennifer Carole Hyde Mace, her nephews Dr. Jeffery Hyde, Dr, Eric Hyde, Jonathan Shushan and Benjamin Shushan and 12 great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her caregiving team and loving community of friends.

A visitation will be held at Heights Funeral Home, located at 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77008, on June 26, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
The funeral service will take place at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 600 Pecore St, Houston, TX 77009, on June 27, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.
A reception will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A Private committal service is scheduled at Houston National Cemetery.
