Jewel was born on Wednesday, June 24, 1931 in Houston, Texas to the late Marguerite (Schiebler) and Willie Anderau. She grew up in the Northside of Houston and attended Marshall and Jeff Davis High Schools. Jewel married at a young age in 1948, to Jack R. Hunter, her husband of 62 years, who predeceased her in 2010. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Shannon Rose Hunter.
As a Houstonian, Jewel really saw the changes that took place in Houston. She worked for a chain of grocery stores from 1948 to 1957. Then, later in life, she pursued a career in the banking business from which she retired after 30 years of service.
Jewel is survived by her daughter, Cynthia and husband Jeff of Houston, TX; son, Ted and wife Mary of Tacoma, WA. She had several cousins from both sides of her family and made a lot of friends in her lifetime. The way a very good friend described her was: “she may be gone, but she will not be forgotten, for there will not be another person like her.”
Family and friends will gather at a visitation at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014. Graveside services, led by Reverend M. Eugene Vickrey, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Freeway, also in Houston.
