Emma Gloria Morales, known by her family and friends as Gloria, went peacefully to Heaven on December 22, 2022. Gloria was a strong Christian, devoted to the Lord and active in three Lutheran churches - San Pedro, Trinity and Pilgrim here in Houston. She attended church services regularly at her assisted living facility where she last lived, making friends and charming all she met.
Gloria was born 98 years ago in Beaumont, Texas to parents Margaret and Manuel Cruz. She moved to Houston in the 1930s and resided here until February 2022, at which time she moved to Belton, Texas to live closer to her caregiver family. A true people person, Gloria treasured her large extended family and numerous friendships made over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Manuel Morales, and five siblings, Argentina, Frank, Lauro, Blanche, and Manuel Jr. Although she never had children, Gloria is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she greatly touched.
Gloria was a 44-year employee of Shell Oil Corporation, starting work in the geology department straight out of high school. Over those years, she worked her way up the corporate ladder, ending up and retiring as a senior accountant.
After retirement, the Texas District Church Extension Fund needed a Director for Circuit 43 which includes Hispanic churches. Being bilingual and with a love for missionary work, she and and her husband accepted this opportunity and worked as a team. She supported The Lutheran Hour radio program where her husband had assisted in bilingual broadcasting. Her energy, love, and devotion to the Lord was reflected in her efforts with the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Circle, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Stephen Ministry and other mission work.
Gloria was always happy to travel, both around the States and overseas. But home is where her heart was. Her house was the main meeting place during the holidays, always hosting family and friends. The food at the table was delicious and Gloria kept busy making sure everyone had plenty to eat and talk about!
Gloria - whose love of life, love of people, love of the Lord, love of the Bible and hymns - leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss her happy, determined spirit and generous nature.
A Memorial service will be held at San Pedro Lutheran Church, 1501 Houston Ave, Houston, Texas, January 4, 2023 at 10:30 am. A Committal service will be at South Park Cemetery, 1310 N. Main St, Pearland, Texas at 2:00 pm.
