

Espy was born to Juan and Catarina Mendez on June 22, 1950, in Brownsville, TX. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1969. She and her Partner Frances Gonzales shared life for 36 years and lived in South Houston, TX. Through these 36 yrs Espy helped Frances raise her son, Antonio “Tony” F. Gonzales and for the last 9 years she loved helping to raise and spoil Citlali Grace Gonzales, Frances’s granddaughter.
She is survived by: Frances Gonzales, Partner, Eva Mendez, Sister, Carroll Hartman, Brother in law, and Anna Mendez, Yolanda Mendez, Sister in law’s.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, Connie and Julie Stephens, Melissa and Sergio Esquival, Besties, along with Countless Nieces/Nephews, Great Nieces/Nephews, Cousins, Great Cousins and numerous extended family members, along with multiple friends, and previous co-workers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Catarina Mendez, Brothers, Juanito Mendez, Benjamin Mendez, Raul Mendez, Ramon Cavazos, Uvaldo Cavazos, Julian Cavazos Jr., Joe Edward Cavazos and Sisters, Maria Mendez Hartman and Josefina C Montemayor.
Espy held a number of Management and Administrative positions in her 38 years with subsidiaries of Chevron: APSI and CSI then with Chevron USA. She enjoyed traveling to Louisiana and Las Vegas. She loved the sport of football and was a die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She also loved baseball and was a 3 year Season Ticket Holder of the Houston Astros. She also loved being with her besties, family and friends gatherings, having fun and making everyone laugh which was the heart and soul of Espy.
A Ceremony of visitation, catholic rosary, and burial is scheduled for March 30, 2026 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery. A reception will not follow the burial, but the family will have refreshments and food items in the reception area at the funeral home during the time of the ceremony.

Frances would also like to Thank Eva Mendez, Connie and Julie Stephens, Melissa and Sergio Esquivel for the countless times of help, care, memories, strength, and love when needed for me and Espy’s time here with us. You all are and will always be a big part of both of our lives. Also, to the many friends and family members that were able to spend time with us the last few years, and all our distant family and friends that checked up on us in one way or another, all of your love and care is truly a strength that is undeniable.
