Fortunato Marquez Lopez

Fortunato M. Lopez was born on October 14, 1944 in Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Emilio and Natalia Lopez. Widowed for 11 years from Pilar A. Lopez. Served proudly in the United States Army with a SP4 ranking in the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment. A.K.A. "Fred" was a retiree from the City of Houston for 11 years. He enjoyed his retirement years with a gusto for life before his passing. He was an avid traveler and a connoisseur of a fine cognac. He also enjoyed spending time with his adult children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends from near and far. There were no boundaries and no road to long for Fred. Whether, to partake in a celebration or just a visit, he was there to enjoy the time spent with loved ones. At St. Christopher's Church he gave countless hours of devotion and time working for various ministries: Eucharist Ministry; St. Vincent De Paul Pantry; sang with church choir; Annual Bazaar chairman and co-chair, in which, he gave endless time selling raffle tickets. Always giving a hand to one and all in anything being sold for the church. He was a 4th Degree Knight and member of Council 4577. He was loved and cherished by all for his generosity and joy he brought to all. The well never ran dry for Fortunato M. Lopez (Fred). Surely, the meaning of his name was evident to many on how fortunate he was to all who came to know him and love him. To follow his giant footsteps is to follow the meaning of what Jesus teaches us to do: love one another. To be the Good Samaritan was all he embodied to help and ease the sorrows of this world's challenges. Go rest...you fought the good fight, you finished the race, and kept the faith. An inspiration and example to us all while we are here to carry on his legacy of love, mercy, and charity.

Fortunato M. Lopez is survived by his three children, Marycela, Albert, and Manuel, and his grandchildren, Matthew Ayala, Andrew Ayala, Julia Ayala, Sebastian Lopez, Zoe Lopez, Summer Lopez, Manuel Lopez Jr., Leah Lopez, and Nicholas Lopez.
