Frances Keegan passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 at the age of 88. A native Texan, Frances was born in Houston on December 28, 1932 to Ruth (Lowerison) and Peter Keegan. She was the middle child of five. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1951 and attended Sacred Heart Dominican College, majoring in Education.
“Francie,” as she was known by family, loved making new friends and cherished the family and friends whom she had known for many years. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and served as a Dominican nun for over two decades. She then taught for another decade and a half for Houston Independent School District. After retiring from HISD, she tutored for many more years and especially enjoyed her Japanese students and learning about their culture. A woman of many interests and talents, she particularly loved working with children, nature, and the arts. She enjoyed painting and firing her own pottery, pressing her own flowers and creating her own stationery, researching her Irish heritage, searching for seashells, pinecones and other natural wonders, watching for blue jays and other birds, gardening and growing her own herbs, and cooking. Presentation was very important to her. When preparing a meal, the food on the plate was perfectly set. When leaving the house, not a hair out of place, coordinated clothing and a pair of her trademark “dangly” earrings were always in order! Her high standards were incomparable.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her four siblings, Mary, Kathleen, Ruth Ellen & Edward, her brother-in-law, Richard, and her sister-in-law, Kathy. Frances is survived by several nieces and nephews, their spouses, great-nieces and -nephews, and many dear friends. Frances lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
