A long-time resident of Hempstead, Texas, he was 100 years old. Known as Dean to friends and family, he was born in El Campo, Texas, in 1921. He lived most of his life in the Houston area except for a brief period in Decatur, Illinois, where he met his beloved wife of over 50 years, Wilma Pauline (long deceased).
A child of the Great Depression and with six siblings, most of whom lived well into their nineties, Dean learned strength, resolve, and a great work ethic from his father, Robert J, who supported a large family through a difficult era.
Dean held just two jobs in Houston for over forty years, the later at Camco, Inc. (now Schlumberger) as a machinist, shop foreman, general manager, and tool designer in the oil pipeline business. He garnered several patents for his company for complex tool making machines. Ever the designer and creator, he built his family home from the ground up almost single handedly in southwest Houston in the late forties. He spent his retirement years designing, augmenting, and building mechanized farm implements on his daughter’s horse ranch. Three months prior to his passing he was working on a device to load hay bales onto flat-bed trucks with merely the control of some levers.
Dean is survived by his son, Richard Alva Logan (an architect undoubtedly influenced by his father’s creative and building skills) in Key West, Florida; his daughter Deana Lynn Logan (an avid horse rancher) in Hempstead, Texas; and granddaughter Jennifer Ann Logan (an accomplished graphic designer and professional dancer/choreographer) in Los Angeles, California; along with countless nephews, nieces, and their offspring in Texas, Illinois, and Missouri.
A man of faith, quiet and serious, but handsome and youthful with a surprising wit and charm, and loved by all, Francis Dean Logan was the last of his generation in a prodigious and accomplished Logan clan.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.heightsfuneralhome.com for the Logan family.
