George William Showers Sr., 91, of Houston, TX, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 23, 2018. George was born September 9, 1927 in Houston to X.R. and Ora Bell Showers. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School where he excelled in athletics, including football, baseball and track, before graduating in 1946.
George worked for the United Gas Company before opening his own air conditioning business. His other ventures included owning and operating car washes. George was 32nd degree Mason at the Park Place Lodge, number 1172. He went on to become a member of the Shriner Fraternity. Among his many interests were hunting, fishing, fast pitch softball, umpiring and coaching his son's baseball teams, dancing, and sharing fun times with family and friends.
George is preceded in death by his parents X.R. and Ora Bell Showers; wife of 54 years, Lorraine (Walston) Showers; siblings Allan and Lucinda Anne Showers; and grandchildren Kelli Suzanne Scardino and Markus Andrew Williams. He is survived by his children, Suzanne Rush and husband Randy, George Showers Jr. and wife, Gloria; and his many grandchildren April, Amber, Karl, Misti, Kyle, Kenneth, Tyler, Kristie, and Andres; great grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Randall, Kelli, Shelby, Konni, Ethan, Rachel, Emrys, Mason, Brianica, Hunter, Theron, Markus Jr., Aphroditez, Ben, Ryland, Payton, JY. He is also survived by long time companion Fadra Mims Sharp and her extended family and friends.
