

Gloria Harbuck Satterlee, age 91, passed away on February 28, 2016 at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas after a prolonged illness. She was born on January 22, 1925 in Houston, Texas, where she lived all her life. Her parents were Luther (Doc) and Maude Harbuck. She graduated from Austin High School in 1942. She married the love of her life, Elroy Satterlee in Houston, Texas in 1968. They were married 19 years until his death in 1987. She was devoted to her family and utterly compassionate. Her professional career was spent as a certified tax appraiser. She distinguished herself by becoming the first female appraiser, the first female supervisor, and the first female senior supervisor in the history of the Houston Tax Department. She was responsible for supervising one of the City’s largest tax operations. She loved her job and especially enjoyed discussing tax issues with her husband, Elroy and her boss, Donald Landry. Until her health declined, she was a regular attendee at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Elroy; her sons, Marshall and Lynn; her daughter-in-law Gwen Guillory; her granddaughter, Meredith Spears; and her great grandson, Nicholas Spears. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dennis Topper; her grandson, Jon Brogdon, and wife Sylvia; her granddaughter Kathleen Swain and her husband, Frederick Swain. Also, she is survived by great grand children, Annie, Kate, and Chris Brogdon and Freddie Nic Swain. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Austin High School Alumni Scholarship Fund. Visitation and funeral services will be held at 10 AM and 11 AM, respectively on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
