

Helen Marie Foreman Carswell Vogt, aged 94, passed away on July 24, 2024, at 1:40 p.m. at Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. Born on May 22, 1930, to Edward and Beatrice Foreman in McComb, MS, Helen lived a life full of love and dedication.
Helen graduated from McComb High School and attended Southwest Junior College, where she was the captain of the girls' basketball team. Her spirited play earned her the nickname "Buckshot," a tribute to her small size and big heart. Helen cherished her time at college reunions and talent shows, reconnecting with friends and reminiscing about her joyful years on the court.
She was first married to William (Billy) Earle Carswell Il of Jacksonville, FL. During their ten years together, they had two children: William (Bill) Earle Carswell Jr., born in October 1953 in Valdosta, GA, and Mary Jane Carswell, born in October 1956 in McComb, MS.
Helen later found love with Gene M. Vogt. They were married for over 57 years, with their union celebrated at Broadway Baptist Church in Houston, TX, by Bro. Ernest Weedon. Helen dedicated herself to caring for her son, Bill, who was bedridden for 14 years due to a car accident. Her unwavering love and support extended to her role as a devoted wife and mother.
Known for her strength and independence, Helen was affectionately nicknamed "General" by friends. Despite her tough exterior, she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special with her great sense of humor and kindness. Her generosity extended to her church family, where she loved sharing candy with children and spreading her faith.
Helen's legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene Vogt; her daughter, Mary Jane Lester and her husband, Fred Lester; her grandchildren, Crystal Kilpatrick, Nicole McDonald and her husband, Randy McDonald; and her great-grandchildren, Isabelle Kilpatrick and Parker McDonald.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Beatrice Foreman; her son, Bill Carswell; her sister, Dorothy Wilson; her brothers, Leroy Foreman and Clarence Foreman; and her brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Mary Ann Foreman.
Helen is remembered as a cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
