It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Henrietta “Katie” Rojas Wood. In the early morning of January 30, 2025, with her daughters tightly holding her hands, she entered the kingdom of heaven.
Katie was born on March 4, 1938 to Francisco Rojas and Herminia Garza Rojas. She is a Jefferson Davis HS alum, class of 1957. She also graduated from the University of Houston with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the College of Technology. While attending the UH, she met the love of her life Lewis P. Wood and had two daughters Yvonne K. Wood and Amanda L. Wood. Katie worked for Southwestern Bell, retiring with 24 years of service, starting as an Operator and retired as Manager of Engineering in Telecommunications. She was active in the Hispanic community volunteering with several organizations. Katie was also very active in the local community, serving as President of her neighborhood civic club. After retiring, she enjoyed life traveling with her daughters, spending time with her family and working on her retirement portfolio. Her broker called her the Oracle of the Northside. Katie was a dedicated wife and mother. She was the one the family called for advice or help. Katie was always coming to the rescue for family and pets. She was a very loving, beautiful, smart, kind, and honorable lady. There are not enough words to describe how truly wonderful she was. Even though we are completely shattered by her passing, we will always remember her smile, laugh and positive attitude.
Katie is preceded in death by her husband Lewis P. Wood, parents and siblings. She is survived by her two daughters, nieces and nephews. Katie will forever be in our hearts and minds. She leaves a void that will never be filled. Our hearts are truly broken. May she rest in peace.
Memorial services will be performed at Earthman Resthaven (281-443-0063) February 15th.
