

Jim was born March 1, 1935 in Athens, Louisiana and entered into rest on August 22, 2014 in Minden, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton Edwin Broughton and Nobie Lee Liles Broughton, older sister, Lucy and younger brother, Sonny.
He graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1959 with cum laude honors and started his accounting career with Gulf Oil Corporation. He lived 18 years in Seoul, Korea and in numerous locations in the States for the rest of his career. Because of his knowledge and work ethics, he advanced rapidly with Gulf and received much recognition. He retired from Gulf after 26 ½ years in 1985.
In his retired years he spent his time watching the stock market on CNBC, gardening, fishing, traveling, remodeling his house and building a 17 ft. wooden sail boat. He also loved all of the sports and religiously watched them whether it was football, baseball, basketball, horse racing or golf and more.
He was a very intelligent, honest, practical, hard-working man that loved his family.
Hs is survived by his wife of 28 years, Zoe Ann; daughter Cynthia Hougardy and husband, Gary of Houston; son James M. Broughton of Houston, living and working in Afghanistan; son, Brett Burgess of Ruston, LA; daughter Wendy Richards of Colorado Springs; and grandsons Zackery Richards, Benjamin Hougardy and Christian James Hougardy and numerous other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations in Jim’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
