

James Ferrell O’Connor, USN Ret. age, 93, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015 at his home in Houston, Texas. James was born in New Albany, Indiana on September 5, 1921. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Fire Control Chief Petty Officer during the Pacific Theaters for Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guadalcanal and Pearl Harbor where he also received a letter of accommodation. He also went on to receive 13 battle stars, the American Defense Commendation Ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation for his service on the USS San Francisco.
James was a seasoned war story teller, avid bowler whose love of ice cream and pecan pie was unmatched. He now joins his late wife, Jamea (Jimmy) who he married on a snow filled bitter cold Christmas Eve during the war and his son, Tim. James is survived by his three sons, Michael, Sean, Brian and his two grandchildren.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate Mr. O'Connor's life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, in the sanctuary of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7901 Westview (at Wirt Road) in Houston, Texas, 77055.
