

Leona Jeanette Scott Styles, fondly known as "Jean", was born to Leon Scott and Amagene Rosa Scott on April 5, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio. During World War II, the family moved to Alcola, Tennessee where she attended and graduated from Charles M. Hall High School. Jean then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended Grady Nursing School and graduated in 1959. She then returned to Alcola, Tennessee to work locally as a Nurse. In the early 60's, Jean relocated to Houston, Texas to further pursue her nursing career. Her first job was at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. After about 3 years, she then joined the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Houston where she retired after 30 years of service.Jean married the love of her life Wheatley P. Styles in 1963. She was an avid member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board until her passing.Jean's gift of caring for others went well beyond her duties as a nurse. She was well known for taking others in during times of need. Many friends she met here in Houston were developed through her selfless acts helping others and caring for not only those she loved but people she did not even known.Jean was preceded in death by her husband Wheatley Styles, parents Leon and Amagene Rosa Scott and brother Leon Gordon Scott. She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memory, her son Anthony Styles (Kia), brother Michael Scott (Vickie), Wayne Scott (Shirley), sister-in-law Reba Scott, aunt Patricia Mundy, granddaughter Ania Leonia Styles and grandson Eric Anthony Styles; and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
