Jernice Schuetze Falk quietly passed away on December 30, 2021 at the age of 93. Jernice was born in Ben Arnold, Texas on December 20, 1928 to Olga Hasselman Schuetze and Otto Frank Schuetze. She was the middle child of three daughters. Her parents were farmers who worked hard to provide for their family. When Jernice was twelve, her family moved to Houston. There she attended Edison Jr. High School and Charles H. Milby High School. Later, she attended the University of Houston and worked as a secretary at Humble Oil Company.
One of her classmates at Milby was Cecil Benjamin (C.B.) Falk. After they graduated in 1946, Jernice and C.B. went their separate ways, but a few years later, they had a chance encounter at a post office and reconnected. They were married on August 19, 1950.
Jernice and C.B. raised three daughters and created a loving, happy home for their family. They were very active in their church, Park Place Lutheran, where Jernice served on multiple committees and spent hours planning banquets, creating a recipe book, and making ’Chrismons’ - ornaments for the Christmas trees. She loved sewing clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, attending grandchildren’s sporting events, quilting, crafting, and cooking large meals for the extended family. She delighted everyone with her incredible homemade desserts. Most of all, Jernice loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jernice is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, LaVerne Wright and Christine Kaisler, husband of 57 years, C.B. Falk and great-grandson, Benjamin Walkup. Celebrating her life are her daughters, Elaine Tombaugh (Jay), Nancy Falk (Stan Decker), and Lisa Walkup (Raymond); grandchildren, Jill Bowling (Greg), Matthew Walkup (Bailey), Sarah White (David), Nathan Walkup (Jacy), Thomas Walkup, and Andrew Walkup (Tiffany); great-grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Jack, Royal, Carter, Remington, and Raleigh; sister-in-law, Shirley Falk; brother-in-law, Donald Falk (Harold), and seven nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Holly Hall Retirement home, where Jernice lived for 12 years. We are grateful for the care given by the aides, therapists, medical staff, dining staff, and Peter Huber, the chef.
A graveside service will be held Saturday 1/8/2022 at 11:00 am at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Pasadena, TX; Holly Hall Retirement Community in Houston, TX; or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
