Jimmy Tom McMenamy, a man of faith, honor, and integrity, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2021. Jimmy was born on October 30, 1927 to W.B. and Irene McMenamy in Whitesboro, Texas. He was raised in a home filled with love, extended family, and many friends.
Jimmy and his family later moved to Quanah, Texas. When he reached high school, Jimmy became co-captain of the Quanah Indian football team and his high school sweetheart, Carlyne Sumrall, was a cheerleader. During their senior year Jimmy and Carlyne were voted “Best All-Around Boy and Girl” by their classmates and friends.
After graduation, Jimmy proudly served his country by joining the Army and helped with the clean-up after World War II on the island of Okinawa. While there, he was chosen to work in the Office of the Inspector General.
When Jimmy completed his military service, he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. While at Tech, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. After graduation, Jimmy married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Carlyne Sumrall, on May 9, 1952. Their marriage was blessed with five children – four daughters and one son. They were married for 62 years before Carlyne’s death in 2014.
Jimmy was employed and began his 37 year career in oil and gas with AMOCO Oil Company. During his long career, Jimmy and his family were extremely blessed to have lived in many exciting places where they made wonderful, life-long friends along the way.
Jimmy’s last job transfer brought him and his family back home to Texas where he helped move and set-up the International Division of AMOCO Oil to its new location in Houston. Jimmy enjoyed his time with the International Division because his business trips took him to many interesting places around the world.
In 1989, Jimmy retired and he and Carlyne decided to remain in Houston. Jimmy loved working in his yard, watching football, playing with his grandson, James, and working on his “honey-do” list created by his wife.
Jimmy was a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston for 43 years. He belonged to the King’s Men Sunday School Class where he enjoyed great Bible teaching and fellowship there.
Jimmy was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived his life with integrity, hard work, and Godly principles. His children and grandson, James, were his pride and joy and are a living testament to the legacy he leaves behind.
