Jo Ann Woodham Meyers, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on July 19, 2025 in Fischer, Texas. Jo Ann was born on January 13, 1931 in Houston, Texas to parents Kenneth and Celeste Woodham. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1949.
Jo Ann was a proud member of the University of Texas Class of 1953 where she earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. She was an enthusiastic member of the Chi Omega sorority, and her love for the friends she made there lasted her entire lifetime. Jo Ann earned a Masters of Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1970 and became a licensed professional counselor in 1989. Jo Ann went on to have a successful career, extending decades, as an educator, ombudsman and counselor, inspiring kids to be active and healthy.
While attending the University of Texas Jo Ann met her husband Don Menasco. Together they had three children, Keith, Ken, and Sharon. She lived in Lafayette, Louisiana for 41 years and Fischer, Texas for 20 years. Jo Ann, always the devoted mother, never missed her children’s Little League games. She made the best crawfish etouffee, shrimp creole and roundsteak in the world and loved a good table game like Yahtzee and Wahoo. Jo Ann was a Texas Longhorn fan through and through, dressing to the nines in burnt orange to cheer on her team for every game, especially her favorite basketball player, Kevin Durant.
In retirement, Jo Ann enjoyed traveling around the world with her friends and family, making beautiful scrapbooks of her adventures, and playing bridge into the late night. A little over 20 years ago Jo Ann reconnected with her friend, Alex Brailas, who she had known since high school. Together they moved to a country home in Fischer, Texas. She enjoyed sitting out on the porch watching the birds, deer, and other wildlife visit her yard.
