

Johan, known by most as “Hans,” was born and grew up as an only child in Scheveningen, South Holland, Netherlands, the son of Franciscus Otto Flick and Antje Hendricka Flick (Visser). He attended Leiden University in Instrument Makers College.
He met his beloved wife, Kathryn Flick, at a youth social event at First Methodist Church, Houston. They married in 1962, and raised their two children, Michael and Karen, in Houston, College Station, and Sugarland. Hans became an American citizen in 1972.
In his professional life, Hans was a talented machinist that worked for several universities over his career in their Physics labs. Hans started with Rice University then Texas A&M University then Baylor College of Medicine and lastly University of Houston. Each of these universities exposed Hans to many experiments allowing Hans to travel the world.
Hans was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Flick, parents, Franciscus Otto Flick and Antje Hendricka Flick and his beloved daughter, Karen Flick Daly.
He is survived by his son Michael Flick, daughter-in-law Roxanne Flick, son-in-law Alan Daly and his five grandchildren, Garrett Flick and his wife Madelyn Flick and their son Archer Flick (Hans’ great grandson), Rachel Flick, Julia Flick, Kimberly Daly, and Kristopher Daly and friends.
As for hobbies Hans was an active tennis player for over 50 years. He loved tennis equipment and stringing rackets. He also loved researching and buying cars.
The family will receive friends for a viewing and 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m before Johan’s burial on Saturday, November 23rd, at Forest Park Lawndale (6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association c/o Texas Children's Hospital, 6621 Fannin, Houston, TX 77030 or the Dementia Foundation.
