

Eva Frances Ryan met John in Houston and they married in December, 1948. She was the love of his life.
During WWII, John served in the US Navy in the Pacific theater aboard a destroyer as a radioman. He enjoyed 32 years of retirement from Rheem Manufacturing Company.
John was a 68 year member of Reagan Masonic Lodge No. 1037, and also a member of J. W. Chandler Lodge No. 1452 and S. P. Waltrip Lodge No. 1328. Always an active Mason, he served as Worshipful Master of Reagan Lodge in 1959-60, and as a District Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1995. John excelled in Masonic ritual and enjoyed teaching. He had the rare distinction of attaining a 65 Year Certificate in the Masonic Esoteric work. Reagan Lodge honored him with the Golden Trowel Award in 2000, the highest individual award a lodge can present.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances and his son, John Jr. He is survived by his son Craig Skelton and wife Candy of Corpus Christi, Texas, and two granddaughters, Lisa Skelton Parretta (Matt) of Austin, Texas and Katy Skelton Acuff (Drew) of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, March 31st from 5 -7 PM at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Rd., Houston, TX 77055.
Masonic gravesite services were held on Friday, April 1st at 11 AM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
