

John was a talented trumpet player who began his career playing accompaniment to silent movies at the Metropolitan and Majestic theaters in downtown Houston while still in his teens. Between 1935 and 1942, John was First Trumpet with the Houston Symphony and formed the John Sullivan Orchestra to perform in venues across Texas and the United States.
John served in the U.S. Army Second Infantry Division during D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Back in Houston after the War, he played at the Southern Dinner Club, the Plantation Club, the Shamrock Hilton and other popular nightspots.
John is predeceased by his parents, John F. Sullivan and Eddie Atkinson Sullivan, by his brother, Edward A. Sullivan, by his first wife, Ann Stuchly Sullivan and his second wife, Lillian Anglund Sullivan.
Graveside services and interment at Glenwood Cemetery will took place on Tuesday, May 1st at 9:00 AM and were followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in John’s memory.
