Johnnie was born on July 11, 1935 in Zavala, Texas, she was one of seven daughters born to John Wesley and Jessie Mae Hayes.
She worked at a family owned restaurant called the 7 Sister’s Café in Diboll, Texas. After moving to Houston she worked for Houston Power and Lighting. She started her career in banking. She worked as a teller for Lockwood National Bank and ended her career as an internal auditor for Highland Village National Bank.
She met Stanley Francis Barrilleaux and they married in 1955. They began their family in Houston, Texas. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in April 2019.
Johnnie was a wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her Christian faith, and a strong East Texas Hayes girl will of iron, raised four children and helped many friends in need. She believed in service to others and tried to lead by example.
The most important role she played was Grandmother. Everyone knew if you went to Nana’s house, most anything you asked was a yes. She loved babies and children, all children. She always told us when she got to heaven she wanted to be in charge of the nursery and rock babies all day long.
She was preceded in death by her son John Julian Barrilleaux (1982). She is survived by, husband Stanley Francis Barrilleaux, children Stanley Joseph Barrilleaux , Tracy Renee McDonald and Teri Michelle Gregory.
Grandchildren, Courtney Michelle Meloy, Lindsey Renee Garver, John David McDonald and Leah Ann Breckenridge.
Great Grandchildren, Kaitlyn Renee Wise, Emily Diane Wise and Alaska Elizabeth Meloy.
Preceded in death by sisters: Ima Stephens, Selma Mott, and Pauline Fussell.
Survived by three remaining sisters. Katherine White, Billie Fontenot and Linda Patton. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
We are comforted in the belief that she is safe in the arms of Jesus our loving savior, reunited with her son John and family that have gone before. She’s rocking babies and waiting for us.
