Jose Rangel, age 86, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.
Jose was born in Mexico and spent his childhood in Gachupines, Guanajuato, Mexico. He later moved with his parents and sister to Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Jose married Maria De Jesus Montelongo on October 19, 1968, at Sagrado Corazon Church in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, love, and faith.
Jose spent his early years in the United States working as a migrant worker, traveling to states such as Florida, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio before eventually settling in Houston in 1975. Here, he helped build the foundation of many Houston-area landmarks, working in scaffolding on construction sites throughout the city.
Through years of hard work and perseverance, he helped build not only a livelihood for his family but also a lasting legacy of dedication and commitment to those he loved.
Though he was a quiet man, Jose had a presence that spoke volumes. His deep faith in God guided his life, and his love for his family was evident in the many ways he showed up for them. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took pride in his family and the generations that followed him.
Some of Jose’s happiest moments were spent back at the ranch in Mexico, surrounded by family, sharing stories, laughter, and the familiar sounds of his guitar. Those family gatherings created treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of those who shared them.
He took great pride in his grandchildren, who loved their “Wuelo” dearly. He held a special place in their hearts, and the love they shared was a beautiful part of his life.
To his nieces and nephews, he was lovingly known as “Tio Pepe,” a special name that reflected the place he held in their lives and the affection they will always carry for him.
Jose is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesus and Zenaida Rangel.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Montelongo Rangel, along with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, who will continue to honor his memory and carry his legacy forward.
