Joseph Alexander Escobar, 59, was called home by our Lord on March 29, 2018. Joe, as he was known by all, was born in Houston, Texas on July 26, 1958. A native Houstonian, Joe began his educational path at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, Lutheran High School, Commonwealth College of Mortuary Sciences, and completed it at the University of Houston.
A hard and dedicated worker all his life, Joe began his multifaceted career early on with the City of Houston Fire Department, as a fireman and paramedic, where he served the city of Houston for the better part of two decades. Not satisfied with just his service to the city, he enrolled in Commonwealth College and obtained his license as a funeral director and embalmer, where he would go on to serve the public at several funeral homes and mortuaries for over 35 years. If that was not enough, during his tenure as a funeral director and embalmer, this incredible man also obtained his Texas Peace Officer’s license and served as a Harris County Reserve Deputy Constable for Precinct 1 and 6.
A lifetime of service, Joe was dedicated to helping the public, especially those less fortunate and those in need. He was a generous man and would give the shirt from his back (and literally did several times in his life) to anyone in need. Over the years, he assisted countless families and friends with their funeral and burial needs, and in some instances made the impossible possible for those who could not afford to lay their loved ones to rest.
A charismatic man, Joe was known for his magnificent generosity, and was loved for his jovial nature, humor, and wit. He always had the perfect joke at the perfect time. We could spend hours recounting “Joe” stories and quotes. He was a jokester who loved to laugh and to make others laugh.
In his spare time, he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He also enjoyed sports and was an avid football fan. He loved spending time with his family at family gatherings, especially with his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Popo” or “Poppa Bear.” He had a very kind heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Margarito C. Escobar, his mother Jacinta Escobar, and his daughter-in-law, Amiee Escobar. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Natalie Escobar, his children: Robert Escobar, Eric Escobar and fiancée Lydia, Nicholas Escobar, and Valerie Escobar and spouse Michael. His grandchildren: Victoria Escobar, Madelyn Escobar, Christopher Joseph Escobar, Julianna Aguirre, Michael Asher Aguirre, Mason Alexander Aguirre, and Stella Lucia-Fina Escobar, as well as a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:00PM to 9:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM. Funeral service will be on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
