Joyce Marie (Lipinski) Turlock of Houston, Texas, passed away on August 21, 2025. Joyce was born to Jerry and R. Marie Baker Lipinski on September 14, 1942, in Bay City, Texas. She was a lifelong Texan who graduated from Bay City High School in 1961.
In 1962, Joyce met Paul Turlock, the love her life, at Bill Mraz Dance Hall in Houston Heights. Even though she later found out that Paul was not the FBI secret agent he claimed to be, she decided to marry him on September 28, 1963, in Bay City and spend the rest of her life with him as a partner. They lived most of their married life in the Oak Forest neighborhood.
On August 25, 1964, Joyce gave birth to her pride and joy and best friend, Michelle Lynn Turlock Isler. Joyce loved being a mother, school volunteer, homemaker, teacher and Eucharistic Minister at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
During periods when Paul was unavailable, Joyce kept Michelle constantly entertained, even though she did not learn how to drive until Michelle started 8th Grade. It was not unusual to see Joyce and little Michelle walking to afternoon movies at Garden Oaks theater, shopping the candy counter at Sears, or spending mornings at the Oak Forest library sharing her love of books with Michelle.
It was quite a few years later that she discovered another job that she loved – that of a Nana – when Nolan Isler was born in February of 1995. Her house is not only filled with books but thousands of pictures of the family she loved.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and husband Paul. She is survived by her brother Jerry Lipinski, Jr as well as her daughter Michelle, son-in-law Thomas Isler and her beloved grandson Nolan Isler.
A time of visitation celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at Earthman Resthaven on the North Freeway from 4:00-7:00 with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 on Tuesday, September 2nd. A Mass of Catholic Burial will then be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 1:00 on Wednesday, September 3rd, followed by interment at Resthaven at 3:00.
Since Joyce prayed the Rosary (at least once) every day of her adult life, she has asked that in lieu of flowers, everyone should request that Masses be said in her name at your favorite church.
A catered reception will be held at Earthman Resthaven, Event Room, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on September 3, 2025, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
