I believe I have just found my high school AP English teacher.  A few months too late :-(
If Judith Elizabeth Black is indeed she, I am sorry, to hear of her passing. She was an amazing teacher. Her instruction about Macbeth stays with me till this day. "What does "When Birnam Wood come to Dunsinane" mean?" Someone in our class got it into their head that they were going to read the book "Wifey" instead of Macbeth, so several of us did. Dr. Black did not skip a beat - she expect us to write an in depth essay about it just as we would for Macbeth. Seriously we all learned a lesson from that. And it wasn't that we weren't going to get out of work, but that the analysis of literature could and should be applied to all things we read. That one lesson is one which I believe is the essence of true education.


Judy was truly an Angel on Earth.  She will always hold a special place in our hearts and we will always treasure the many family holidays filled with laughter, and lots of love.  We will miss her smiles and sense of humor dearly.

I have known Judy for well over 50 years.  She was my friend, she was my sister-in-law.  I know her as a wonderful  wife, mother, grandmother, daughter-in-law, aunt, and sister-in-law.  Our familys  shared decades celebrating the holidays and family celebrations together with lots of fun, food, laughter. We always threw in a bit of silliness just for fun. Judy left our world a better place.

Judy was a wonderful teacher and a valuable member of the English department at Houston Baptist University.  Teaching Jane Austen and the Brontes, she single-handedly saved the 18th century for us.  The afternoon teas she hosted for her students fostered close, long-lasting friendships beyond the classroom.  
Judy was a gentle, kind lady who was well-loved and who will be missed.

We have lost one of the sweetest, most brilliant of people to have graced this earth. Judy, my work neighbor, thank you for showing us where the good dance halls were, where to hear good music, and where to share good times with good friends. You and Eddie took Brad and I under your wing and provided us with some truly enjoyable, memorable evenings. I loved our convos in between classes as well. Your light shines bright in the memories of all of the many lives you have touched, including mine. Your legacy lives on.

I was a student of Dr. Black's at Miami Killian Senior High School in the late '70s.  Few teachers left such an indelible mark on me as Dr. Black.  I am convinced that my strong writing and love for reading was inspired by her.   She will surely be missed by students in Florida and Texas and everywhere in between!   I send her family much love and support during this difficult time.


I am sorry for your loss.  Aunt Judy was a terrific, amazingly strong woman.  I will always remember her in happier days, with the red cowboy hat as she and Uncle Eddie headed out to Gilley's.    Just a picture of Aunt Judy and her boys!
