Katherine was a native Houstonian and grew up on the Southeast side of town. She graduated from Milby High School in 1962. She married her sweetheart Thomas Carte in 1963. Katherine became a mother with the birth of her only child, Thomas Jr. “Chip” in 1967. She became a grandmother first in 1998, with the birth of Thomas III, and again in 2004, with the birth of twins Shelby and Hannah. Gran became a great grandmother in 2022 with the birth of Thomas IV.
Katherine enjoyed her career which spanned over 50 years working for such companies as Houston Lighting & Power, Data Organized, and Brown & Root/ Halliburton. She regularly attended St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church. Katherine found great joy in arts and crafts. Her interests included sewing, crocheting, and ceramics. She had a very festive spirit, decorating for each holiday and making sure to send greeting cards to her grandchildren at each holiday. She was very fond of music, whether it be a hymn of worship or oldies rock and roll. Katherine cherished the many visits she shared with her friends, always ensuring to make the love she bared for them known with her presence. She made sure to extend her support to all her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, by attending their various extracurricular events and activities and lending her encouragement. Additionally, Katherine loved to root for Houston’s professional sports teams such as the Astros, Oilers, Rockets, and Texans.
Katherine is survived by her only son Thomas Harold Carte, Jr, and wife Lori as well as her three grandchildren, Thomas III (Lesly), Shelby, and Hannah, and great grandchild Thomas IV and another grandson due in September, sister, Jackie Hardwick, nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members.
Katherine was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas “Pap’ H. Carte, Sr; her father John L. Sullivan and mother Dixie “Mama Earlene” Sullivan; brother James L. Sullivan.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to Memorial Hermann Southeast, Ignite Medical Resorts, and UTMB Clear Lake for the professional and dedicated care you gave our mother. We deeply appreciate the love and attention she received.
A visitation for Katherine will be held Monday, May 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Colonial Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers are Thomas H. Carte, Jr., Thomas H. Carte III, John L. Sullivan II, Kirk Patrick Sullivan, John Scott Hardwick, and Anthony Skoog. Honorary pallbearers are Shelby Marie Carte, Hannah Rose Carte, Thomas H. Carte IV, Alexis Sullivan, Amy Scott, and Felicitas Vallee.
