

LaToya Pettit was born August 24, 1974 in Houston, Texas, the oldest child of the late Jerome Pettit and Lucy Chenault. She received her education through the Houston Independent School District. Latoya united with Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Brookshire, Texas at an early age, under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Robert Marshall Sr. and remained a member for many years. Latoya loved to cook and bake. She also had a love for reading and traveling. In her spare time, she went fishing and shopped in every store imaginable. On her Journey through life, God sent her the love of her life, Ronnie Johnson and two stepchildren, Ronnie and Monique Payton, and six grandchildren. This union was blessed for over 20 years. Latoya was a founding member of the Big Sexy Divas Book Club (B.S.D.s) where she held the position of treasurer. Even though Latoya did not have any children of her own, she was a mother to many. She embraced her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She departed this life on January 30, 2014 and was preceded in death by her father, Jerome. Pettit; grandmothers, Mildred Mai:Pear' Smith, Betty O'Neal, and Merle Big Mama' Mc Cady; grandfathers, Albert Powell Sr. and Willie Big Daddy' Mc Gady, and one uncle Ricky O'Neal. Those left to cherish her memories are her mother and father, Lucy and Larry Chenault of Katy, TX. Her spouse, Ronnie Johnson, of Katy, TX. Two brothers: Jemal Pettit Sr. (La' Vete) and Cervaanz Chenault, both of Katy, TX. One sister: Pleshette Oliver (Kerris) of Katy, TX. One great-aunt, Clairetta Hackett of Brookshire, TX. Three aunts: Polly Gentry (James) of Houston, TX; Mildred Smith of Brookshire, TX; and Wanda Walker of Houston, TX. Eight uncles: Hollis Smith of Houston, TX; John Smith of Katy, TX; Robert Smith of Katy, TX; Kenneth Pettit Sr. (Gail) of Houston, TX; Ronald Pettit (Sandra) of Houston, TX; Donald Bedford of Houston, TX; Anthony O'Neal of Houston, TX; and Clayton Powell (Lillian) of Houston, TX. Four nieces: Jasmine Pettit, Kerrah Oliver, Jada Pettit, and Kyslynn Oliver. Four nephews: Jemal Pettit Jr., Ja' Kaylon Pettit, Ja' Marius Pettit, and Ja' Kerrious Oliver. Three special cousinsisters: LaShawn Smith Clayton (Adontel of Stockton, California; Nitcher Small, and Latricia Hardy both of Houston, TX. Four life-long sisters: Monique Taylor, Melinda Jackson, LaTosha Ashworth, and Seanna Reliford. Her special "baby" Demetria Sanford and a host of other relatives and friends. Her life has been well lived and peaceful rest well earned. She will be greatly missed by all.
