I came from South Dakota in October 1962, and started 8th grade at David Crocket Jr. High School in Beaumont, TX.  Lee was in a couple of my classes, and had a great sense of humor!  I'll never forget the Christmas Dance at Crocket in '62, when there was a "Paul Jones" dance and Lee and I ended up with each other.  He was counting out his steps the whole time--"one, two, three, one, two, three", and I got so tickled at him!  Such a nice guy.  Was also in Chess Club at BHS with him.  At the 50th Class Reunion for the Class of 1967, there was a table with names of those who had passed away.  I  was very sorry to see that he had passed away in 2015.  RIP Lee.  You are missed.  


It was 1961 and I was new to Beaumont and to the 8th grade at Crockett Junior High, and this Hispanic kid sitting behind me in Mrs. Beatty's Speech class just kept drawing me in to conversations which nearly got us into trouble more than once.  One day early in the school year he asked if I was going to "the Fair," being the old Southeast Texas State Fair then run by the YMBL and held at the fair grounds on Gulf Street.  I didn't know what it was, but he asked if I'd like to go with him, and it sounded good to me, so we went, and one mom dropped us off and the other picked us up at the designated time.
That was Lee Torres.  I'm proud to say he was my friend, and sad to say that I lost touch with him sometime in high school, and also, very sad to know of his passing.  

I’m only just seeing this. I hope he found peace. I hope Rosie, Julia and his son Christian are well. 

Here it is almost a year after he passed and I just found out. Lee was one of the local guys from the neighborhood. Before the age of School Buses in Beaumont, Texas..... Lee was such a friend that me and a couple of other guys rode with him to school every morning in his new 1968 GTO. Great memories. Rest in Peace, Buddy...
