

Lewis Wesley Renfro Sr.? was born on September 4, 1925 in Athens, Texas, to Andrew Renfro and Emma Bean Renfro. He served in the United States Army from 12/21/1943 to 05/05/1946 and received an honorable discharge. He was a World War II veteran and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and EAME Theater Ribbon. He enjoyed sharing stories about the time he spent in England during his service. He joined in marriage with Earlia Mae Nixon Renfro and they resided in Athens, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Wanda Renfro Hasley (Austin, Texas), Lewis Wesley Renfro, Jr, (Keller, Texas), Darlene Renfro Westbrook (deceased /formerly of Austin, Texas), Cindy A. Renfro (Stafford, Texas) and Dennis K. Renfro (Duncanville, Texas). He worked during these years as a concrete operator and overall entrepreneur- owning and operating a small grocery store, pawn and loan shop and newspaper. During these years in Athens, Texas, many referred to him as “Sonny” or Sonny Renfro. He later moved to Houston, Texas and united with Doris Hawkins Renfro (deceased). This union was blessed with one son, Mark W. Renfro (Houston, Texas). He worked during these years at Yellow Freight Transit System from which he retired on 01/27/89. During these years many referred to him as “Snuffy” because of that ever existing blob of snuff tucked in his cheek. He enjoyed many years of retired life. His final marriage was to Terrie Lavergne Renfro who preceded him in death on May 21, 2015. He departed this life on September 20, 2016 at the age of 91. He is survived by four children: Wanda, Lewis Jr. Cindy, Dennis and Mark; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Special family members also include Carolyn J. Ellis for her love and support to Dad, Cindy and the entire Renfro family and to Dorothy “Dee” Hedgemon (Renfro) for her love and support to Dad, Mark and the entire Renfro family. The family extends special thanks and gratitude to the staff and care givers at Optimum Personal Care (OPC) in Missouri City, Texas for the excellent and compassionate care he received there in the final months of his life.
