Louis E. "Boogie" Dittmann, Jr., husband, father, and grandfather, was a man respected by all and feared by any fish that might have crossed his path. Louis passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Houston, Texas, after a courageous and brave battle with cancer and just four short days before his 81st birthday.
Louis was born in Houston, Texas on March 5, 1934 to Louis E. Dittmann, Sr. and Ruth Dittmann. A 1952 graduate of Milby High School, he married Loretta Propes, and they had two children, Dana Diane and William "Bill" Louis. After attending the University of Houston, Louis began as an apprentice engineer at Southern Petroleum Laboratories before becoming a beloved member of the legal community in Harris County. He worked over 39 years as a Court Reporter in the Harris County Family District Courts for Judge Ben Woodall and Judge Allen Daggett.
Throughout his life, Louis was an avid sportsman and could be found wade fishing in the surf, drifting the weed line in the gulf or anchored in the waters of southeast Texas and Louisiana. He maintained a weekend home in Surfside, Texas throughout most of his life and enjoyed his time spent there with his Surfside friends. He coached Little League baseball for many years and loved all types of sports. Sunday football games were a family tradition, whether watching together or apart, the discussion was always lively.
As with many, his passion for life was only matched by his passion for family. Louis was predeceased by his parents, Louis E. Dittmann, Sr. and Ruth Hoop Dittmann; his sister, Diane Dittmann and his aunt, Ella Hoop. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Dittmann; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Joe Winter; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tara Dittmann; grandchildren, Tristan Dittmann, Layne Dittmann and Katelyn Dittmann; mother-in-law, Jane Gumb, numerous extended family members and many devoted friends.
A family man with an unrivaled passion for life, a visitation for Louis will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00am at the Forest Park Lawndale Chapel of Angels, with Rev. David Fraser officiating. A private family graveside service will follow. Honorary Pallbearers include Tristan Dittmann, Layne Dittmann, Frank Pell, Gene Cochran, Jack Dell, and Ted Flick.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
