Lupe Tijerina Avalos

Lupe was born to Jose and Lupe Tijerina, April 2, 1948, in Edna, Texas. She married Johnny Y Avalos in 1985, and they lived together in Channelview, Tx. Together they raised two children and five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Lupe is survived by her husband Johnny Avalos and sons Alex Salazar, Daniel Avalos, and grandchildren Jacob Avalos, Ian Avalos, Chris Avalos, Eliza Avalos, and great grandchild Alayna Avalos.

She also leaves to cherish her siblings Fannie Sanchez, Ester Martinez, Stella Reyes, Minerva Avalos, Alfred Tijerina and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Lupe Tijerina, and siblings Mary Pina, Raynaldo, Joe Tijerina Jr, and grandchild Ryan Avalos.

Lupe worked for Anchor Hocking Glass as well as Anheuser-Busch for over 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing, going to the movies and watching her favorite television show the walking dead. She loved dancing to zydeco music and dressing up in a costume during Halloween and hen parties. She cherished her sisters, co-workers as well as her kids, grandkids, and granddaughters. She also enjoyed baking and giving gifts to friends and families during the holidays and throughout the year.

She was also actively involved in supporting many charities such as the war veterans of America, Shriners hospital, the Harris County sheriff’s association along with many others.

Services are scheduled starting with the viewing on Friday May 19, at Forest Park Lawndale from 5pm-9pm with the rosary starting at 7pm followed by the final viewing (9am) and mass (10am) taking place on Saturday at St. Andrew catholic church in Channelview and preceded by the burial at Forest Park Lawndale (12pm). A reception will follow at the American legion located at 7599 Avenue C, Houston, TX 77012.
