

Lydia led a multifaceted life, touching many through her various roles. She began her career as a seamstress and nurse, dedicating 22 years to UPS before transitioning to serve at St. Phillip's Church and later at the UTMB WIC office. Throughout, she remained actively involved in the church community, contributing her voice to the choir, teaching as a CCE educator, and counseling those in need. She also found joy in family trail rides and served as president of the Los Amigos Trail Riders.
Beyond her professional and community contributions, Lydia cherished her roles as a daughter, sister, wife, and mother of four children. She is survived by her children: Fernando Escalera (Annie), Chris Escalera (Felicia), Chavonne Escalera, and Arron Escalera (Carla). Lydia was a proud grandmother to Fernando, Daniel, Matthew, Sofia, Gabriella, Madeline, Melanie, and Miabella. She also leaves behind her siblings: Brother Tony Burciaga (Aurleia) and Sister Margaret Box (Donald).
Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Othelia Burciaga, and her sister Mary Sanchez. She is remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation to honor Lydia's life will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, followed by a rosary from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
