On the twenty-eighth day of November, in the year of our Lord, 1919, Mable Kate Mitchell Williams was born to Hattie Mae Mitchell, a single parent. The first of seven children, Mable attended Madisonville Colored School in Madisonville, Texas. After relocating to Houston, Texas, she became the mother of two; Addie and Rodney Williams. After uniting in marriage with Roden Manning, the Williams children became Manning children, as their family was blended. Later in life, Mable met and married Deacon Frank Spell, a single father of seven (Jessie, Audrey, Selena, Edna, Barbara Jean, Frank, Jr. and Roy). Being the remarkable woman that she was, the family unit was increased to nine. This union was blessed by another baby boy (Joseph Wayne Spell). A hard worker and provider, Mable was a hard worker. She gained employment with Weingarten's and was a diligent employee for many years. She ended her career outside the home and began and new career as a home care provider in the Pasadena and Houston areas. At an early age, Mable accepted Christ. She was baptized at the age of thirteen at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville, Texas under the leadership of Reverend A. C. Diggs. After moving to Houston, she united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Bolden. Since she was a resident of the Acres Home Community, Mable moved her membership to Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in 1952 where Reverend M. A. Callies was the pastor. For many years, she served in several ministries of the church, including Church Clerk, Deaconess, Choir and Mission member. After decades of dedicated service, she moved her membership to Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in 1999 under the auspices of Reverend Dr. Edwin A. Davis. Never losing her faith, she was a warrior for Christ until the Lord called her to her eternal home. On Thursday, November 29, 2012, Mable Kate Spell entered into an eternal slumber. Those that await her arrival on the other side are her mother (Hattie Mae Nugent); husband (Frank Spell, Sr.); four daughters (Audrey Spell Townsend, Jessie Spell, Addie Manning Anderson and Barbara Jean Johnson); three sons (Rodney Manning, Frank Spell, Jr., and Roy Spell); one granddaughter (2nd Class Petty Officer Jessica Roche' Spell); two grandsons (Brett Manning and Trent Jefferson); two sisters (Addirene and Rabon Williams) and four brothers (James Ed Nugent, James Ray Nugent, Johnny Williams and Pete Williams). Left to honor her life, love and legacy are two daughters: Edna O'Gilbert (Willie) and Selena Jackson (Sterling); one son: Reverend Joseph W. Spell (Janice); eight granddaughters: Valerie Spell, Addraneece Jefferson, Nataiya Spell, Kimberly Bryant, Yolanda Spell, Sharon Spell, Demetra Spell, LaKeishia Chavis; eleven grandsons: Robert Mayfield (Brenda), Rodney Jefferson (Maisha), Joseph Spell, Jr., James Lee Bryant, Bracy Webb (Lemisha) and Neiman Williams, Marshall and Chad Townsend, Coby and Scott O'Gilbert and Andre Manning; numerous greatgrandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Harlon Nugent; a host of extended family, other relatives and friends.
