In his younger years Manuel lived on a farm helping the family as much as he could. With an 8th grade education, street smarts and mechanically inclined instincts, Manuel was able to create an amazing life for himself and his family.
On December 18, 1955 Manuel married the love of his life, Estella Espinosa. During their early years of marriage he worked at Hires Root Beer Company and Bronze Art Company. His hard work allowed him to purchase a shotgun house on Avenue N in Magnolia Park and start a family. Seven years later, Manuel and Estella purchased their home where they raised their children and grandchildren on Laredo Street in Denver Harbor. After about 35 years, they moved to their current home on Mayhaw drive. With the help of Manuel’s brother, Paul, he landed a job as a pipefitter at Stauffer Chemical Company. After 33 years as a pipefitter Manuel retired at the young age of 62 years old.
Hobbies of Manuel included racing pigeons and raising chickens. He also volunteered with Estella counting Sunday collections at Resurrection Church. Manuel always welcomed family and friends to their house. When family or friends called for plumbing issues, Manuel was there to help and get the job done. Time with family and grandkids was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed gardening and lawn work. He took pride in having the best yard on the block.
In a heartwarming conclusion to 66 years of marriage, he was welcomed into heaven to celebrate his wife’s birthday with her. His passing on March 22 was a testament to their enduring love. Manuel is survived by his brother George Gonzales; his children Terry Silguero (Husband- David Silguero), Rocky Gonzales (Wife- Sandra Gonzales), Gloria Bernal (Husband- Jose Victor Bernal), and Richard Gonzales (Wife- Anna Gonzales); Eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
